Who Can Fix Google My Business Profile Suspensions?

Discovering that your Google Business Profile (formerly called Google My Business) has been suspended can be a real nightmare. One moment you’re ranking on Google Maps, getting leads, phone calls, and new customers… and then the next, you find out your listing has vanished or you can’t access it anymore. When this happens, the first thought most business owners have is, “Who can even fix this?” and honestly, it’s a fair question because Google doesn’t always make it clear what went wrong or how to make it right again.

Understanding What a Suspension Really Means

First off, let’s understand that there are two different kinds of suspensions. One is called a soft suspension, where your profile is still live and customers might still find you, but you lose the ability to manage it. The other, much worse, is a hard suspension,  basically, your business disappears from Maps and local search results entirely. In both cases, Google is saying that something about your business listing doesn’t match their guidelines, but they rarely spell it out clearly for you. It’s up to you to figure it out and fix it. Which, I won’t lie, can be frustrating.

Can You Fix It Yourself?

So… who can actually fix it? Well, believe it or not, a lot of times you, the business owner, are the best person to fix a suspension. If you’re willing to dig into Google’s Business Profile guidelines (yeah, they’re pretty long and kinda boring but necessary), you can sometimes figure out exactly what triggered the issue.

A lot of suspensions happen because of small things like having the wrong business category, adding extra keywords into your business name (like “Joe’s Plumbing Best Services Miami” instead of just “Joe’s Plumbing”), or using an address that Google considers invalid, like a PO box or virtual office. If you spot a problem and fix it, you can submit a reinstatement request to Google yourself through their official form.

Of course, it’s not always that easy. Sometimes, even when you think you’ve fixed everything, Google denies your reinstatement. Or worse, you can’t even tell what you did wrong.

When that happens, you might need to reach out to Google Business Profile support.

They have a help centre and sometimes live chat or email options, though I gotta warn you getting a human response can take time, and sometimes their replies feel super generic.

They’ll usually just point you to a guideline without telling you exactly what needs changing. Support can help, but they usually won’t fix your listing for you. You’ll still be the one who has to make all the corrections and prove to Google that your business is legitimate and follows all their rules.

When You Need an Expert’s Help

Now, if all that sounds overwhelming (and trust me, it can be), there are professionals out there who specialize in fixing suspended Google Business Profiles.

These people are often called GBP experts or local SEO consultants. They know Google’s rules inside and out, and they can usually sniff out the cause of a suspension way faster than a regular business owner can.

They’ll do a full audit of your profile, look for inconsistencies, fix problems you didn’t even realize were issues, and help you submit a strong reinstatement request that has a better chance of being approved.

Some of them will even deal directly with Google’s support team on your behalf, which can save you a lot of headaches.

There are also bigger digital marketing agencies that offer suspension recovery services, though not all agencies are created equal. Some agencies genuinely know their stuff and will assign your case to someone who specializes in local SEO. But others might treat your suspended profile like just another ticket in their system, meaning it could take longer than you’d like to get any real progress. If you go this route, make sure to ask if they’ve actually handled Google Business Profile suspensions before, and don’t just take their word for it  ask for examples or testimonials from past clients if you can.

Now, a lot of people wonder if they should even bother hiring someone or just keep trying to fix it themselves.

Here’s the honest truth: if your business heavily depends on local customers finding you on Google, and every day your profile is down is costing you money, it might be smart to hire an expert sooner rather than later. Especially if you’ve already tried once or twice to fix it and got denied.

But if you’re a brand-new business or if you can afford to be patient and learn, fixing it yourself can work too. Google doesn’t charge you anything to submit reinstatement requests, so you can try it on your own first if you want to save money.

How to Avoid Getting Suspended Again

Once your suspension is finally fixed (and I hope it doesn’t take too long), you’ll definitely want to do everything you can to avoid getting suspended again.

That means keeping your business name exactly as it appears in the real world (no extra keywords or marketing slogans), making sure your address and phone number are consistent everywhere online, and being really careful when making changes to your profile.

Even something simple like changing your business hours or category can sometimes trigger a review, so always double-check before you hit that “submit” button. Also, don’t try to cut corners by posting stock photos or fake reviews. Google’s systems are getting smarter every day, and those kinds of things can easily get your profile flagged.

Honestly, having your profile suspended is scary, but it’s not the end of the world. Whether you fix it yourself, get help from Google support, or bring in a GBP expert, the key is to stay calm and methodical.

Take the time to understand what went wrong, correct it properly, and communicate clearly when you submit your reinstatement request. Don’t just fire off angry emails at Google that rarely help and sometimes even hurt your chances of getting reinstated quickly.

At the end of the day, your business’s online visibility is too important to leave up to chance. If you can handle it yourself, great. If you need help, there’s no shame in calling in an expert.

Whatever you do, just make sure you take action. The longer your business is offline, the more chances you’re giving your competitors to swoop in and steal your customers.

So don’t wait around too long,  get moving and get your profile back where it belongs: right in front of the people who need you.
